The digital divide is the cause of the intolerable, ever-widening class gap between the privileged and the not so privileged. Those who are financially more privileged have the ability to develop their education as they constantly crave knowledge, while those who financially struggle don’t have the opportunity to further enhance their understanding of the world as we know it. However, in our current society, especially in the Silicon Valley, every day, every month, every year, prices are constantly raised, therefore leading to more and more people struggling to provide the necessary amount of money for their families to even survive. One solution to this problem is for the internet to become free and available in all libraries around the world. In India, for example, it has been found that many libraries have no access to computers like in the United States. In our current nation, according to the illustrious Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, 98.9% of all public U.S. libraries gift their customers with free access to the Internet. With computers accessible in all libraries those without privilege will have the ability to self-learn, especially if they cannot afford schooling. A second solution is to decrease the price of technological devices in this world, thus allowing higher wages for those who work laboriously day after day. More people will then afford the devices crucial to deepen their education, therefore creating a more developed society that will benefit the future generation. Overall, decreasing the price of technological devices or making them accessible to all in libraries would help decrease the digital divide that is ubiquitous in the everyday world.
